This fire engine is made with a rice krispy treat (essentially, rice bubbles and melted marshmallows mixed into a sticky mess and 'set' in a tin). When cooled and set, I carved the block of rice krispy treat into the basic shape of a fire engine, and then covered it in fondant. I followed the instructions for Debbie Brown's fire engine cake and was very pleased with the result, even though I changed things a little to suit the slightly smaller scale of the cake topper.
This year I had the opportunity to participate in the PANDSI Cake-off, a fundraiser for the organisation held at the Hyatt Hotel. The theme of the Cake-off this year was Canberra in cake, so I decided to showcase Canberra's four seasons. I enjoy modelling in fondant, and making cute figurines is what I do best, so I decided to make four little bears enjoying the best of Canberra's seasons.
